The Met office said that Coningsby region in eastern England recorded 40.3 degree Celsius temperature. At least 34 locations in Britain beat the previous record of 38.7C set in Cambridge, eastern England, in 2019. Many people have taken off from their work to enjoy swimming on the beaches. Social media is flooded with beachy pictures and a debate is going on about climate change. The experts blame climate change is the main reason of intense heatwave in Europe that also fueled the wildfires in Spain, Portugal and France. UK government’s Climate Change Committee warned that heat-related deaths could increase this year. In 2020, over 2,000 people lost their lives due to heatwaves in UK.
