Road at the junction of Changmai and Gohain villages in Singhadwar, Hanhchara of Sivasagar district, has disrupted the daily life of the public and caused immense inconvenience. The temporary diversion road constructed alongside is also slippery and uneven, making it very difficult for vehicles and pedestrians to navigate during rainfall.The B.G. Road, also known as the Sivasagar-Nazira Road, is one of the busiest roads in Sivasagar district, with thousands of vehicles plying on it daily. However, the administration and the Public Works Department seem to be indifferent to the issue. Despite the ongoing construction work under the Assam Mala scheme, the progress is very slow, and the road remains in a poor condition.The 18-kilometer road stretch from Sivasagar to Simluguri’s Sumoni village is being constructed at a cost of Rs 121 crores, but the completion timeline remains uncertain. Meanwhile, the construction of the RCC culvert on the road, which is crucial for water drainage from Gohain agricultural land to Changmai agricultural land, has also come to a standstill.The delayed construction of the culvert has already caused problems for farmers, with many of their crop fields getting submerged due to waterlogging. If the construction work is not expedited, it is likely to cause significant losses to the farmers in the future. Therefore, it is essential for the concerned department to prioritize the issue and take immediate action to address the problems faced by the public.
