News Desk,19 Jauary,2023 : Members of the Sivasagar district executive committee of All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) on Wednesday held a three-hour sit-in in front of the office of the Nazira revenue circle officer over alleged illegal stone quarrying in the Lakshmijan Rajabheta area under Athkhel Mouza.
The demonstrators, led by Sivasagar AASAA president Dharmeswar Ghatowar and secretary Rajib Mirdha, alleged that illegal stone quarrying in the Lakshmijan Rajabheta area has posed a threat to 200 families besides affecting Lakshmijan Tea Estate and Bihubar Tea Estate. They demanded an immediate end to stone quarrying in the area and adequate compensation to the affected people. AASAA vice-president Rustam Kujur also took part in the demonstration.
The protesters later submitted a memorandum to Nazira revenue circle officer Van Lal Limpuia Nampui who assured them of looking into their demands.
